My perfect FT Weekend would be...

Just like the April weekend I drove to see my mum in Devon: sun, blue sky, clear road. But she'd be well, would run to greet me. Missing her

Visiting my mum in beautiful, green Mid Devon there was always something new to do or see. Swallows' nests under the eaves, the parent birds tirelessly flying to and fro with titbits for their timid young; the old Bramley tree creaking and groaning with the weight of fruit destined for crumbles, pies and puddings; the thatched barton beginning its new life as a swanky conversion... This spring I made the final visit. Lying white as wax and silent as snowfall she could no longer speak. I held her hand and said goodbye as she left on her lone journey. My perfect weekend would begin just the same; sunshine, blue sky, clear road. But I would arrive to find Mum young, well, and happy. We would laugh, and drink tea, and talk and talk.
